What does Navifleet have in common with a football organisation? Online monitoring! Since May 2019, the vehicles in which players (and not only players!) travel during events organised by a major football organisation have been fitted with our telematics systems. In this success story we tell you more about the project.
Organising sporting events is a huge logistical challenge. Part of it is providing transport for players and the other people involved in the whole undertaking: referees, officials, VIPs. The cars often have to cover hundreds of kilometres, and it is impossible to determine in advance how long a journey will take or to predict possible problems on the road. To manage efficiently, the organisers therefore need to know where each vehicle is and when it will reach its destination, and information about any potential delay should arrive in real time.
A telematics solution allows the process to be managed efficiently, journeys to be planned and, ultimately, the important figures from the world of football to be satisfied as they reach their destinations quickly and safely. The client expressed a need to order devices enabling real-time online monitoring of the location of the vehicles used for transport during the sporting event. An important requirement was the ability to remove and refit the devices independently: because events under the patronage of this football federation are organised all over the world, the trackers should be reusable many times, in different cars.
The implementation process
The devices were deployed during a football tournament held in Poland. During the tournament, players, referees and officials travelled between stadiums, hotels and airports in cars fitted with Navifleet telematics.
The client received trackers for more than 100 vehicles, with special dedicated branding prepared to the investor's requirements. All the devices were used during the event; they were installed in cars as well as minibuses and coaches. The versatility of the solution means it can work both in a car with a 12V system and in 24V coaches.
A special application enables ongoing online monitoring of the vehicles, making it easier to coordinate the event. Beyond location, it also provides information about any speeding; for the safety of the players and other guests, the subcontractors hired for transport are required to exercise caution on the roads. The advanced application system allowed the client to create a hierarchy tree, assigning different people different levels of permissions, so that depending on their access level a person using the application sees only the data of specific vehicles.
To make it easier for the client to use the system, we ran training in its operation at the transport department's offices in Łódź. We also provided the client with a special fifty-inch monitor on which the position of all vehicles can be tracked continuously

The devices and the application were tested in Poland during the sporting event and were rated very positively by the client.
The hardware was prepared so that rotating it (fitting it in other vehicles) would be as simple as possible. As a result, after the tournament the devices could be taken by the organisation's representatives for use at subsequent events.
